UPS Employees Volunteer at CHARLEE Homes for Children
As part of UPS’s ongoing commitment to strengthen the communities where it operates, more than 35 UPS employees volunteered to help abused, abandoned and neglected children at one of CHARLEE Homes for Children’s foster care group homes in Miami on Saturday, March 6, 2004. UPS employees donated their time and talent to paint the entire exterior of the home. The home provides residential and therapeutic services to six foster children.

This UPS volunteer activity in Miami was part of UPS’s world-wide volunteerism initiatives. UPS’s Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Service program encourages employees worldwide to increase their volunteer activities. “Very few companies have the unique opportunity that UPS has to establish their presence in every community,” said Evern Cooper, president of The UPS Foundation and vice president of the company’s corporate relations initiatives. “At UPS, we see the needs in the community each day, and we value volunteering and helping to address community issues just as much as we value donating funds. Our support of the CHARLEE Program signifies our shared focus and commitment to improve our communities.”

Founded in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its support will clearly impact social issues. The Foundation’s major initiatives currently include programs that support increased nationwide volunteerism, family and workplace literacy, and food relief and rescue. In 2002, The UPS Foundation donated more than $38 million to charitable organizations worldwide. Visit www.community.ups.com for more information about UPS's community involvement.

CHARLEE, which stands for Children Have All Rights: Legal, Educational, Emotional, annually serves over 500 children and families of all races, backgrounds, and religions in both residential and non-residential programs. The organization has developed an integrated continuum of care for the hardest to serve foster children including residential, therapeutic, supportive, and adoption services. In 2002, the CHARLEE Program was honored when it was selected by the Department of Children and Families to develop a Model Foster Care System as envisioned by the Florida Legislature, to develop best practices and establish a model program for the State of Florida.
